This is an interactive desktop flight simulator created to help instrument-rated pilots maintain proficiency in the maneuvers outlined in the FAA instrument currency requirements and prepare for the Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC). Unlike any other desktop flight simulator available on the market today, Instrument Refresher — An IPC Simulator is a comprehensive tutorial and training platform for instrument pilots.
Using a photorealistic and aerodynamically-accurate Cessna 172, Instrument Refresher gives pilots 24 lessons divided into four "blocks" of learning: radio navigation, airwork, enroute procedures and instrument approaches. Lessons cover all maneuvers required to maintain instrument currency including instrument approaches, holding, intercepting and tracking using NAVAIDs, as well as unusual attitudes, partial panel, radio communications, and steep turns; a fifth block simulates an actual Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC).
This software is ideal for pilots who don’t fly on the gauges as frequently as they’d like to, those who need to relearn some procedures, or those seeking a way to practice instrument recent-flight-experience maneuvers. Instrument Refresher will help pilots build confidence in their instrument skills and get over the refresher hurdle with the guidance of a qualified, knowledgeable instructor in the privacy of their own home. The program also includes a "free flight" mode that allows users to leave the training environment and practice procedures and approaches anywhere in the world, setting weather conditions along the way.

Features of Instrument Refresher: an IPC Simulator
Interactive Lessons. This program's lesson technology covers all the maneuvers required to maintain instrument currency (per 14 CFR 61.57). The challenges you'll face here include:
Instrument approaches
Holding procedures
Intercepting and tracking courses using NAVAIDs
Unusual attitudes
Steep turns
Partial panel
IFR communications
and a comprehensive IPC flight.
"Virtual CFII": Instrument Refresher's built-in CFII guides you with interactive voice prompts and graphical displays, so you know exactly how well you flew your lesson. Your virtual flight instructor will:
Demonstrate each maneuver or procedure.
Explain each step as he flies it.
Prompt you through your first attempts at it.
Watch as you practice, stopping if you stray too far from the minimums outlined in the Instrument Rating Practical Test Standards.
Talk to you, as well as an entire cast of ATC personalities including Ground Control, Clearance Delivery, ATIS, Tower, and Approach and Departure Control.
In addition to this program's comprehensive tutorial, use its aerodynamically-accurate Cessna 172 to practice instrument approaches and procedures in the airspace you fly in, giving you a chance to tax your flying skills at a low "per flight hour" cost which helps you keep your complete focus on the instrument panel:
Comprehensive worldwide database included, with airports, airways, NAVAIDs, intersections, and fixes.
Realistic instrument failures help you maximize your emergency procedures training.
Set the weather conditions to practice flying to minimums, executing missed approaches, navigating with winds and turbulence, and decision-making skills in IMC.
Use both the profile and plan views to evaluate your flight track, backup, and re-fly under different conditions.
