“There’s gold in them thar hills!” The cry that started many a gold rush well over a century ago may be long gone, but there was still sufficient gold at Bronson Creek, British Columbia in the 1990s to make it worth facing the daunting challenge of how to support mining operations in this vast Canadian mountain wilderness.
Amazingly, the problem of getting the equipment in and the gold out was solved by using a fabulous collection of vintage propliners; Bristol Freighters, DC4s, C117s and a Carvair.
Filmed by the men who flew the missions, this new DVD will terrify many a less adventurous pilot. The weather is frequently awful and the mountains are always too close, because the main route to the mine is at low level along tortuous, steep-sided river valleys. When they got there, crews then faced a hazardous landing on the gravel airstrip.
Hawk Air’s unique Bristol Freighters and their wonderful Carvair rose to the challenge, together with Brooks Fuel DC4s and Sky Freighter’s C117s, carrying everything from toothpicks to pickaxes.
With plenty of cockpit rides through frightening scenery, air to air sessions with the Bristol Freighters and the Carvair and lots of action at the landing strip, this is a most enjoyable DVD and a great tribute to a chapter of aviation history now gone forever. Don’t miss it!
Even though this program was filmed and produced in the US NTSC TV format, this DVD will play perfectly on all PAL DVD players and PAL TVs worldwide . No conversion of the picture from NTSC to PAL takes place and the picture looks exactly as though it was filmed and produced in PAL.
