When the top edge of the plotter is aligned with the proposed track the heading to steer (zero wind) is read from the rotating azimuth protracotr paralleled with a meridian of its grid lines. Distance to destination is read on the 1:500,000 or 1:1,000,000 scales reading each way from the centre of the rotating protractor. Scales in Nautical Miles on front and Statute Miles on reverse.
